Fuhryk sets sights on Australian Guineas after her dominant victory in the Kevin Hayes Stakes

  • David Hayes thinks Fuhryk is elite
  • Group Two Angus Armanasco her next start
  • The Australian Guineas is now on the radar

It seems everything Craig Williams and the Hayes&Dabernig team touch is turning to gold. Fuhryk is no exception, rising through the grades to win her first black type, the group three Kevin Hayes Stakes.

Fuhryk began her campaign by winning a Wodonga maiden by a neck, certainly not the best indication that she was destined for great things this Autumn. She then moved on and won two consecutive races at Moonee Valley before a luckless fourth at Flemington.

It was a masterful ride from Craig Williams who allowed Fuhryk to settle comfortably in fifth position, keeping the second favourite Jennifer Lynn firmly in a pocket on his inside. Williams then angled clear at the 300m mark.

Fuhryk burst to the front before Williams had even produced the whip. When he did Fuhryk kicked away, putting her rivals away in two strides, winning by two lengths, beating Oregon’s Day and Savanna Amour.

Jockey Craig Williams was full of praise for the Filly saying “She’s undefeated at 1200m this preparation. Her only defeat was at Flemington back to 1100m. She was good and very tough today. She’s got better things coming.”

Senior trainer David Hayes now holds her in high regard, saying that before her win at Moonee Valley she was under the radar. “She was unlucky at Flemington, she was held up when it mattered. I believe when she gets over 1400m to a mile she’ll be elite. I think she’s pretty good.” Hayes said.

Fuhryk will now head to the Group Two Angus Armanasco Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on Blue Diamond Stakes Day. If successful she could run again in the Group One Australian Guineas at Flemington the following week.
