Manikato Stakes Odds – Kementari and Sunlight battle for favouritism

  • Kementari returns to sprinting
  • Sunlight chases a third straight win
Sunlight

Kementari and Sunlight look set to lock horns in the battle for favouritism to win Friday night's Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

The Tony McEvoy-trained Sunlight is chasing a hat-trick of wins following back-to-back successes at Group 3 level, and the three-year-old filly has been posted as the $4.50 favourite after the barrier draw after getting gate 3.

James Cummings is sending Godolphin galloper Kementari back down in trip to sprints after a Spring Carnival campaign without success, and Ladbrokes had him as the $4.00 favourite, but he drifted out to $4.60 after drawing wide in barrier 12.

Behind the front two in the market is Houtzen, the Toby Edmunds-trained mare who is a $7.00 chance to return to winning ways under the lights on Friday night.

Malaguerra hasn't been seen on the track for almost a year but is $9.00 to make a winning return, the same price as the Darren Weir-trained Brave Smash with international U S Navy Flag at $9.50 for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

Brave Smash and U S Navy Flag were eighth and ninth in The Everest last start.

Spirit Of Valor ($14), Voodoo Lad ($15) and Invincible Star ($17) are three other runners towards the head of the betting for the Manikato.
