Our expert previews each race on Cup Day including the main event.

Race 1 - 10:50AM BUMBLE STAKES (1000 METRES)
A lottery race to start proceedings with eight of the 12 horses engaged yet to race. Of the raced brigade, Champagne Boom won impressively and looks hard to beat, but I’m going with Sunlight’s full-sister SISSTAR. Sunlight just won the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes down the Flemington straight, and her sister may be able to claim a Flemington straight races just three days later. She impressed in both barrier trials and has shown brilliant early speed. Chris Waller’s Still Single impressive in a barrier trial and can also be included.

2nd – Champagne Boom
3rd – Still Single
4th – Dreamtime Lady

Race 2 - 11:30AM TAB APP TROPHY (1700 METRES)
Another tough race, but willing to stick with ONE MORE TRY who has won both races this campaign. She went from a second-up maiden win to a two-length BM70 win at her third run last campaign, so with two runs under her belt this time, she looks to have the improvement necessary to give this a shake. She drops from 60kg to 54kg and should enjoy a soft run from gate 2.

2nd – Mamzelle Tess
3rd – Lady Silhouette
4th – Miss Siska

Race 3 - 12:05PM GRINDERS COFFEE ROASTERS TROPHY (1400 METRES)
FIFTY STARS meets Manuel 2kg better at the weights here and has a bit more upside being third-up over 1400m. He improved with every run last campaign and should be doing the same this preparation.

2nd – Éclair Calling
3rd – Suncraze
4th – Manuel

Race 4 - 12:40PM RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES PLATE (2800 METRES)
SIN TO WIN has been racing like a horse crying out for this trip or longer but has been kept to 2400m for his past three starts as he gains race fitness. He performs best at Flemington and looks set to run a big race before possibly heading to the Sandown Cup (3200m) as stablemate Fanatic did last year when winning this race and the Sandown Cup.

2nd – Berisha
3rd – Steel Prince
4th – Darabad

Race 5 - 1:15PM SCHWEPPES FLEMINGTON FLING (1000 METRES)
NOMOTHAJ might just be a very good 1000m horse down the Flemington straight. He’s disappointed in a couple of runs at Gold Coast and Morphettville, but in two runs at this track and trip, he defeated Ranier and Sunlight in the MARIBYRNONG Trial and then beat Irukandji in the Festival Stakes. That form is strong.

2nd – Fine Dane
3rd – Cyclonite
4th – Singular Sensation

Race 6 - 1:50PM JIM BEAM BLACK STAKES (1400 METRES)
Unencumbered filly MIRETTE went from a maiden win at Benalla to the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) where she was far from disgraced finishing 2.1 lengths from Amphitrite. The drop back to 1400m suits and she just needs a bit of luck from barrier 14.

2nd – Beauty
3rd – Pohutukawa
4th – Persuader

Race 7 - 3:00PM LEXUS MELBOURNE CUP (3200 METRES)

1st – Magic Circle
2nd – Cross Counter
3rd – Yucatan
4th – Best Solution

Race 8 - 4:05PM FURPHY PLATE (1800 METRES)
LIFE LESS ORDINARY faces the quick back-up after chasing hard from near last in the Group 1 Kennedy Mile on Saturday, and if he can back-up, he’ll be hard to beat over a bit longer on the bigger Flemington track.

2nd – Stampede
3rd – Tom Melbourne
4th – Kiwia

Race 9 - 4:45PM MSS SECURITY SPRINT (1200 METRES)
TREKKING never saw daylight behind Brave Song last start and now meets that galloper 2.5kg better at the weights. He was in top form prior to that run having won three and finished runner-up in four runs this preparation. A soft run behind the speed and a clear crack at them should see him bounce back.

2nd – Comicas
3rd – Stellar Collision
4th – Tversky

Race 10 - 5:20PM THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB STAKES (1400 METRES)
The form around OUR CROWN MISTRESS looks strong having finished 1.3 lengths from Winter Bride and Booker in the Northwood Plume (1200m) last start. She won her only start at this track and trip when taking out the Lexus Hybrid on Cup Day last year.

2nd – Resin
3rd – Noire
4th – Savatiano
