Hartnell lines up in the All Aged Stakes

Racing is at Randwick on Saturday April 21 for the final two Group 1 events of the autumn carnival and there are nine races on the programme.

We have looked through the fields and picked out the best three roughies to back for the day, each-way.

Race 6 - 2:55PM MOET & CHANDON CHAMPAGNE STAKES (1600 METRES)

The first of the two Group 1’s sees the two-year-olds step up to the 1600m in the Champagne Stakes and despite winning at a massive price last time, there is nothing to suggest that El Dorado Dreaming won't land again, albeit as a $9.50 shot. The Ben Smith-trained galloper comes out of the right race if previous history is anything to go by. 14 of the past 18 winners of the Champagne had their previous run in the Sires, while the fillies also have a good record here. She also won with reasonable authority in the Sires Produce, rattling from the back of the field so the step up to the 1600m shouldn't hold too many concerns. The improving type is value at the near to double figure odds.

Race 7 - 3:35PM SCHWEPPES ALL AGED STAKES (1400 METRES)

Another one at a similar price on Saturday is the old warrior, Hartnell, who is not without a big show in the All Aged Stakes. The former rival of Winx comes off a seven week freshen up after struggling in the Australian Cup (2000m). However, in his old age, he has thrived when on the fresh side and has shown an affinity for the shorter trips. He claimed a thrilling edition of the Group 1 Orr Stakes (1400m) earlier this year and certainly has the ability to hold out a number of his rivals in this, including the three-year-old, Trapeze Artist, who steps up to open class for the first time.

Race 8 - 4:15PM SHARP JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION PLATE (2000 METRES)

Montauk lines up in the JRA Plate for trainer Chris Waller and while there are others ahead of him in the market such as Arbeitsam and Intercoluter, this guy must be considered on the back of his excellent record at Randwick. He has won four times at the track and is three from five at the Randwick 2000m, placing in the other two. The son of More Than Ready took out the Summer Cup (2000m) at Group 3 level at his last preparation and while he normally needs another run or so under the belt, he has trialled well and should have a bit of residual fitness from the summer preparation. He is a player at the $18
