Sha Tin is one of two racecourses staging feature horse racing in Hong Kong with the other being Happy Valley racecourse.

See below for the horses to follow from the upcoming race meetings at Sha Tin.

Sha Tin Tips - September 2

A small field lines up for the first Class 1 of the new season but is doesn’t lack class. The Tony Cruz-trained WINNER’S WAY is first-up here but boasts a very impressive record when fresh. Two starts back, he won impressively in class 3 company over 1200m at Sha Tin, covering the trip in 1:08.17. Then last start, he climbed to 1400m and looked the winner passing the 300m mark but was then crowded for room over the final 200m to finish fifth, beaten just over a length. On fresh legs here, he hasn’t missed a top two finish when fresh and should look the winner at some stage. Premiership winning jockey Zac Purton is aboard and will be looking to start the season on a winning note.
Race 6 - TAMAR HANDICAP (Class 4) 1400M
Dennis Yip has WINNING CONTROLLER lining up here who won two of his past five starts and at the weights is right in the mix. Two starts back he sat outside the leader with no cover, then took over at the 300m mark, only to be run down in the final 100m. His latest effort saw him go one better and take out a class 4 over the mile with Joao Moreira in the saddle. He drops back to the 1400m here but was a winner over this trip five starts back. Jack Wong jumps back on and after his claim will carry just 1kg over the limit. Well weighted and well placed, he will jump from gate one and should enjoy a perfect sit, this time with cover. He will be there when the whips are cracking.

Sha Tin Tips - July 15

Stepping up to class 1 grade here, the Caspar Fownes-trained RISE HIGH has won his last two starts, both at class 2 level and has earned a crack at the top grade. Last start he was trapped on the fence straightening for home and gave Purton no choice but to push his way out. He was then checked by another runner and once settled again, the horse tended to hang in. However, he overcame all the dramas to get up on the line. Drawn well again here, he should be box-seating on settling and with Purton remaining aboard, he will no doubt avoid any possible trouble and save him for the run home. He looks up to this.

Should the jockey’s premiership come down to this race, I believe Zac Purton will come out of this one triumphant. His mount, SOLAR PATCH is in outstanding form of late and hasn’t finished outside the first two since arriving in Hong Kong. Two starts back, the Stratum gelding was most impressive when carrying 59.5kgs to victory here over 1400m. Last start, he didn’t fare well at the barrier and jumping from gate 13 (of 14) had to do a lot of extra work at the start in crossing the field to find a forward spot. Purton sat outside the leader until straightening then went for home. Try as he did, he beat all but Win Beauty Win home which was a mighty effort at his first go in class 2 company. He came up with gate one here and will surely enjoy the run of the race from there. Solar Patch looks perfectly placed here and will be very hard to run down. If he hasn’t already done so before this race, this is where Purton should sew-up the premiership.
