The Metropolitan Tips - Waller looks set to claim staying feature

Chris Waller could be in line for a Group 1 bonanza as he saddles up six horses in The Metropolitan (2400m).

As well as the favourite, Brimham Rocks, Waller has Shraaoh, Wu Gok, Come Play With Me, Patrick Erin and Haripour engaged in the $750,000 staying feature.

Brimham Rocks appears to bring the strongest form lines into the race having scored an impressive victory in the Naturalism Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield where he assured himself a start in the Caulfield Cup by winning.

Racing Victoria handicapper Greg Carpenter decided not to penalise Brimham Rocks for his Naturalism win as he already meets some of his Naturalism rivals worse at the weights in the Caulfield Cup, but a win on Saturday would most likely see the son of Fastnet rock attract some extra weight.

Brimham Rocks posted a last start benchmark (BM) figure of 15 lengths above BM which was a PB and a big improvement on his previous effort.

First-up, he was 10 lengths below BM in the Rowley Mile (1600m) before going 1.2 lengths above BM in the Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and then 15 lengths above BM last start.

He’s clearly trending the right way and is one of three horse to have posted a PB last start – Come Play With Me and Scarlet Dream are the other pair going 8.3 and 7.7 lengths above BM last start.

Brimham Rocks was narrowly defeated by Patrick Erin in this race last year after he did plenty of work sitting outside the leader and taking over at the top of the straight while Patrick Erin chimed in from forward of midfield and got a peach of a ride to score.

Brimham Rocks appears to be going three lengths better this year, and with a more patient ride this time around, he can finish best to score.
