Australian Grand Prix Betting Odds - Vettel favourite for F1 season-opener

Sebastian Vettel

Sebastien Vettel leads the market to win the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday as he hopes to claim his third straight victory in Melbourne.

Ferrari driver Vettel is $2.25 to claim a fourth overall Australian Grand Prix win to equal Michael Schumacher and Aussie legend Lex Davison’s record.

TAB customers are backing home hope Daniel Ricciardo to cross the finish line first with 43% of all money bet on the Western Australian to win on his debut for Renault.

At the start of this week the Renault driver got out to as much as $251 which clearly enticed a number of punters to show some love for their own. Ricciardo is now a $34 chance to win and $10 to have a podium finish this Sunday.

“It is no surprise to see that Daniel has been popular with our customers,” TAB’s Andrew Georgiou said.

“Once we offered up $251 about his chances of winning in Melbourne, that is when we saw some serious action.”

In the Drivers Championship betting, Ricciardo ($51) holds a touch more money than five-time champ and this year's favourite Lewis Hamilton ($2.00).

Ferrari young gun Charles Leclerc ($5.50) seems to be more popular than his more experienced and celebrated teammate Vettel ($2.75) in terms of money wagered.
