Prediction

Match Preview

It’s been a tough start to the season for Brisbane, but after an improved showing last week, they will aim for their fifth straight win over Cronulla as the two teams square off on Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane have been all over the place across the first six rounds, registering a 1-5 record and anchored towards the bottom of the ladder.

The halves need direction and more creativity, but they will be buoyed by scoring 22 points against the Raiders, who have been the best defensive team in the competition.

Apart from demolition job from the Roosters, the Broncos have been a chance of winning their last three games, going down by one point to the Dragons, six points in the last minute against the Tigers and four points last week against Canberra.

They’re not too far off and Brisbane receive a double boost this week with the return of James Roberts and Tevita Pangai.

Cronulla meanwhile sit dead even in eighth spot on the ladder with a 3-3 record after six rounds.

The Sharks have suffered multiple injuries to rep players over the last month or so, which has contributed to their somewhat lacklustre start to the season, but they will take immense confidence from their comeback win over the Panthers last week, recovering from 20-6 down with 17 minutes to go.

John Morris has been forced into one change for this clash, with Jayson Bukuya coming onto the bench for the suspended Briton Nikora. Sharks fans will be excited to see centre Bronson Xerri in open space after the rookie lit up Shark Park last week.

However, I think this is a game the Broncos can win and begin to turn around their season. They’ve got a good record over Cronulla and have been close to wins over the last month. The Sharks are yet to hit top gear this season, so this is a chance Brisbane needs to take with both hands.
