Brisbane Broncos and Penrith Panthers attempt to maintain their top eight status when they square off in a crucial clash in Round 22 of the NRL on Friday night.

Broncos vs Panthers kicks off at 7.55pm AEST at Suncorp Stadium. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports and Channel 9 in Australia.

Prediction

Match Preview

Both the Broncos and Panthers will be desperate for a vital two points as the race for a finals spot heats up on Friday night at Suncorp.

It’s seventh vs eighth and neither team will want to relinquish the momentum they picked up from close victories last week - or, needless to say, lose their spot in the top eight.

Brisbane were far from convincing away to North Queensland, but their persistence was rewarded in he final minute as Jake Turpin stepped his way to the tryline to hand his side a 18-14 win.

It was a significant win for the Broncos, who were coming off a 40-4 thrashing to Melbourne and needed an immediate response to steady the ship on their season.

Anthony Seibold has named the same 17 for this clash, with Alex Glenn (knee) and Matt Gillett (back) both listed among the reserves.

Meanwhile, the Panthers were also able to bounce back from a discouraging loss the previous round against the Bulldogs, holding on to edge the Sharks by a 26-20 scoreline - and knocking Cronulla out of the top eight as a result.

With just three points separating Penrith in seventh and the Warriors in 11th, there’s simply no room for error from all of the sides entrenched in that space over the next few rounds.

Ivan Cleary receives a big boost for his side this week with James Maloney returning from suspension in the halves.

This should be a cracking contest if both teams rise to the occasion. Brisbane have won their last three meetings, but I think the Panthers - at their best - are playing better football right now. This should go down to the wire - and I’m going to back the away side, on the back of Maloney’s return, to edge it.

Match Odds

Brisbane Broncos - $1.68
Penrith Panthers - $2.15
