Raiders face Tigers on Sunday

Wests Tigers take on bogey team Canberra Raiders as they attempt to keep their slim finals chances alive at GIO Stadium on Sunday in Round 22 of the NRL.

Prediction

Match Preview

The Tigers face a trip to the nation’s capital to square off against their undisputed bogey team Canberra with their season on the line on Sunday afternoon.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more daunting head-to-head record in recent times - the Raiders have won the last four meetings between the sides and scored at least 46 points in all of them, including victorious margins of 54, 42, 40 and 36.

Needless to say, this isn’t the team the Tigers want to come up against when they need to pretty much win all their remaining games to have a chance of knocking out the Warriors or Brisbane in the race for the final spot in the top eight.

Add in the coaching controversy surrounding Ivan Cleary and is rumoured desire to return to the Panthers despite having two years left to run on his Tigers contract, and it’s certainly not the ideal situation for the joint-venture side.

Their only saving grace is that Canberra’s season has been over for a few weeks now and the Green  Machine might not be operating at their full potential as a result.

Undoubtedly the most frustrating team in the competition, the Raiders have the second best attack in the NRL but rank 13th in defence, while they blew another big lead as they went down 40-31 to the Panthers last week.

Incredibly, the Raiders have lost seven games this season while scoring 22 points or more. But with the Tigers having the worst attack in the NRL, it’s less of an issue for them in this match-up. On a Sunday afternoon in Canberra, expect the Raiders to throw the ball around and rack up another big score on a dishevelled Tigers outfit.
