Prediction

Match Preview

Canberra could find themselves in second position on the ladder if things go their way on Saturday during Round 18 of the NRL.

The Raiders would propel themselves into second behind only Melbourne if they beat the Tigers and the Rabbitohs slip up against the Cowboys later on Saturday night.

After a tough period where they lost a few close games, Ricky Stuart has got his side back on track, and they produced a dazzling display to conquer the Dragons last week, prevailing 36-14 despite playing almost half of the game with a man down after Nick Cotric was sent off for a spear tackle.

The victory saw Canberra leapfrog the out-of-form Roosters, and now they have a great chance to further establish themselves within the top four. Michael Oldfield comes into the backline in place of the suspended Citric in the only change from last week’s triumphant side.

Meanwhile, the Tigers have blown a couple of decent chances to move into the eight over the last fortnight, going down against the Roosters in a game they easily could have won and then falling to Parramatta last week.

Other results have gone their way, which means the Tigers are still just two points adrift of the top eight, but that only means they would be in a finals position now if they had taken their chances.

Michael Maguire’s side have another opportunity to get back going in the right direction, but they haven’t had the best of times against Canberra in recent games. In addition to their 28-0 loss in Round 13, the Tigers have lost games by 36, 40, 42 and 54 points to the Raiders since 2016. With the Raiders back to their best and at home, I expect another easy win for the Green Machine on Saturday night.
