Prediction

Match Preview

It’s a crucial clash for both sides as the Sharks and Warriors try to keep their season alive on Saturday afternoon.

Cronulla control their own finals destiny after an unconvincing victory over the Dragons last week, but the Warriors can kiss their season goodbye if they lose this after suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of the Roosters last week.

It’s been an underwhelming season for the Sharks for the most part - they’ve yet to hit top gear all season and are seemingly grinding and scrapping their way through each week. They are a tough football side on their day, but they are lacking a bit of class to match it with the big boys. Shaun Johnson needs to step up in that regard.

With the Panthers and Knights breathing down their necks, Cronulla know they can’t afford to lose this one.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are still mathematically in with a chance of making the eight, but they would need a small miracle after losing 42-6 to the Roosters.

Three points adrift of the eighth-placed Sharks on 19 points, the Warriors need to win their final three games and hope those above them lose. But considering the performance they produced against the Roosters, that’s very unlikely.

Cronulla have won four of their last five encounters, but the Warriors prevailed 19-18 just a few weeks ago in Round 18. The Sharks were in the midst of a massive form slump during that period, and although they haven’t improved that much, they should be able to dig out a positive result at home.

Match Odds

Cronulla Sharks - $1.36
New Zealand Warriors - $3.10
