Prediction

Match Preview

Cronulla target their seventh straight win over Penrith as the two sides kick off the Easter weekend of footy on Thursday night.

Both sides come into this encounter on the back of 2-3 records and last-start defeats, although the Sharks have certainly been the more impressive of of the two clubs when you consider their injury problems.

Cronulla welcome back inspirational captain Paul Gallen this week after he missed their 30-16 defeat to minor premiers the Roosters last week.

In saying that, Cronulla’s only two wins this season have come against struggling Queensland teams the Cowboys and Titans. After five rounds, it’s time they start to put together more statement performances.

Penrith meanwhile couldn’t even beat Gold Coast last week, going down to the previously-winless side 30-24 as they slumped to their third defeat of the season.

Touted as premiership contenders at the start of the year, the Panthers have been rocked by a nightmare pre-season off the field and it’s seemingly affected them on the field to begin 2019.

It appeared as if Penrith had turned a corner when they dug out a gritty 9-8 win over the Tigers, but it’s well and truly back to square one following their loss to the Titans.

The Panthers now have to snap a six-match losing run against the Sharks if they want to prevail on Thursday night. Both teams aren’t playing well at the moment and have yet to conjure up any sort of momentum, but considering their recent record against Penrith and their home ground advantage, you’ve got to give the edge to Cronulla.
