Match Preview

On a three-match winning streak and finally appearing settled under Anthony Seibold, the Broncos continue their charge towards the top eight on Sunday against ‘little brothers’ Gold Coast.

Brisbane were poor to start the season and early on it was looking like 2019 could even be a write off, but Seibold has galvanised his side and now they certainly look like a top eight team, with their next target to challenge those around the top four.

The Broncos will claim a place in the eight if they beat the Titans, which looks likely considering they’ve won eight of their last nine encounters and Gold Coast are languishing in second-last place on the ladder, only above Canterbury on points differential.

Andrew McCullough is back for the Broncos from a knee injury for his first game since Round 8, while Seibold has named his full Origin contingent of Corey Oates, Matt Gillett, Payne Haas, David Fifita and Joe Ofahengaue to back up four days after the series opener.

Once again, Gold Coast are lacking the overall class and depth to challenge for the top eight, and after they lost 4-6 at home to an understrength Cowboys outfit last week, it’s tough to see how they’re going to get the better of Brisbane on Sunday.

Ash Taylor continues to be erratic and inconsistent and certainly isn’t living up to the hype of a few years ago when he was touted as the game’s next big halfback.

Despite their lack of success, Garth Brennan has only made one change to his team, with Origin star Jai Arrow returning in place of Jack Stockwell.

As mentioned, the Broncos have won eight of their last nine encounters, with their last two victories coming by 34 and 54 points - and all the while keeping Gold Coast scoreless. We can expect another big victory from Brisbane on Sunday.
