Prediction

Match Preview

Manly attempt to snap a four-game losing run against the Tigers as the two sides look to return to the winners circle on Friday night.

The Sea Eagles have put together a superb season under the tutelage of Des Hasler, but their top four hopes suffered a blow last week when they were beaten by the Warriors across the Tasman.

It was a rare poor performance from the Sea Eagles in 2019, but they are still sitting pretty in fifth spot and have time to regenerate some positive momentum before the finals.

There are injury concerns for the team ahead of this clash though, with Daly Cherry-Evans battling an ankle problem and Brad Parker and Curtis Sironen both out, replaced by Brendan Elliot and Jack Gosiewski respectively.

Meanwhile, the Tigers would be on 24 points and in seventh position on the ladder if they had defeated the struggling Bulldogs in their two matches this season - but instead, Michael Maguire’s side are on 20 points and in 10th spot after losing to Canterbury 18-16 last week, following on from their Round 3 defeat earlier in the year.

The Tigers had the chance to take the game into golden point, but missed a relatively easy conversion to hand the Bulldogs their seventh win of the season.

It leaves the Tigers with a lot of work to do in order to reclaim a spot in the top eight - and their chances have been further shot with Moses Mbye and Robbie Farah both picking up injuries last week, with Tommy Talau and Jacob Liddle coming in as their replacements.

The Tigers have won the last four meetings between the teams, but I don’t see them coming out on top in this one. Manly have usually bounced straight back after a poor defeat this year, while the Tigers have been very up and down. This could be the week where the Tigers’ finals chances slip through their grasp.
