Prediction

Match Preview

One week after falling by four points to the reigning premiers, Canberra will get to test themselves against the dominant competition leaders as the Green Machine collide with Melbourne on Saturday.

Canberra have been mightily impressive all season, but they have come up just short against the genuine powerhouses this season, losing twice to the Roosters by six points or less, while they went down to the Storm in a relatively close game back in Round 2.

There’s no doubt the Raiders are premiership contenders this season, but they still need that little bit extra when coming up against the very best. Can they find it and register a confidence-boosting win away at the competition leaders on Saturday?

Ricky Stuart receives a big boost for this week, with explosive centre Joey Leilua returning from a long injury lay-off in the centres, pushing Nick Cotric to the wing and Siliva Havili back to the reserves.

Melbourne simply keep plugging away this season, with the club yet to lose a game by more than three points.

Craig Bellamy only has Cameron Smith left from his original ‘Big Four’ of Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk and Greg Inglis, but the Storm are as dominant as ever - and a lot of that comes back to his masterful coaching.

The Storm were also involved in a top four showdown last week, but they were relatively untroubled as they posted a 10-point win over Souths to maintain their six-point lead at the top of the table.

Melbourne have been able to handle the Raiders in their recent encounters, winning their last five meetings, while Canberra’s last win at AAMI Park came back in 2013. Canberra are a real chance, but I can see Melbourne grinding out another tough win.

Match Odds

Melbourne Storm - $1.40
