Match Preview

It doesn’t get much bigger than this for a Round 6 contest - Good Friday, a Grand Final rematch, the competition leaders and the team with the best attack.

The Roosters and Storm have combined for seven of the last eight minor premierships and have won the last two Grand Finals. It’s clear they are the two benchmark teams in the NRL and are coached by two of the very best in Craig Bellamy and Trent Robinson.

Melbourne are the only unbeaten team to begin the season, but they have slowed down a bit over the last two weeks, registering narrow wins over the lowly Bulldogs and Cowboys.

They do welcome back some firepower on the wing this week, with Fijian flyer Suliasi Vunivalu returning in place of Sandor Earl.

Meanwhile, the Roosters are unbeaten since an opening round loss to the Rabbitohs and have been firing on all cylinders over the last fortnight, putting 30 points past the Eels and Sharks.

The Roosters also receive a boost for this showdown, with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves coming back from a rib injury in place of Isaac Liu, who is out with a broken finger. However, Jake Friend and Brett Morris are still sidelined with injury.

The last three regular season games between these teams have been decided by three points or less, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see another close one on Good Friday. There’s barely anything separating these teams, but the Roosters have been operating at a higher level over the last few weeks, while Melbourne’s unbeaten streak has to end sometime. Confident from their Grand Final triumph, the Roosters are solid value for the win.

Match Odds
