Match Preview

It’s been over a month since Cronulla registered their last victory on June 8 - can the 2016 premiers bounce back to winning ways against the inconsistent Warriors on Friday night?

Cronulla were hit hard by injuries over the first half of the season and now it seems that’s taken its toll on the team. The Sharks have lost their last four matches, including dismal defeats to bottom-placed Canterbury and a Baby Broncos side, dropping out of the top eight as a result.

Their completion rate has been terrible and they have simply been making too many poor errors to compete over the last month. Cronulla are also battling more injury concerns coming into this clash, with Josh Morris and Josh Dugan both out with a broken nose and hamstring problem respectively.

Matt Moylan returns from a hamstring injury of his own at fullback, while Kurt Capewell comes into the centres for Dugan.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have been involved in some extremely close games of football over the last month.

It all started with a four-point win away to Gold Coast, which was followed by a one-point loss to Penrith, a four-point win away to Newcastle and last week’s 18-18 draw away to Brisbane, which was the first draw in the NRL in three years.

Those results have left the Warriors sitting on 15 points, three adrift of the top eight. A winning run would see them make a push towards the finals, but do they have the ability to put it together?

I have my doubts. The Warriors are still as inconsistent as ever, and as for this game, they have lost their last four meetings with Cronulla. The Sharks’ style usually grinds them down, so I’m backing a tight and scrappy victory for the away team.
