Match Preview

Once upon a time the Warriors were a tough team for Melbourne to break down, but the Storm have claimed a stranglehold over their Kiwi rivals in recent meetings - can they chalk up an eighth consecutive victory on Saturday across the Tasman?

Both sides are coming off the bye last week, with Melbourne cruising past Canterbury 28-6 in their last outing, while the Warriors failed to score a try in a 2-8 defeat at home to Brisbane.

Melbourne went through a small rough patch but have seemingly come out the other side, regaining the competition lead over Souths and the Roosters and are right where they want to be as the Origin period sets in.

However, they might have to leave out some of their Origin stars for this clash, with Josh Addo-Carr, Cam Munster, Felise Kaufusi and Will Chambers all needing to make the long trip to Auckland from Brisbane with just two days rest if they are going to back up.

The Warriors have no such concerns where Origin is concerned and will field their strongest possible line-up as they look to build on their one-point ANZAC Day loss to Melbourne earlier in the season.

It’s been yet another up-and-down season for the Warriors, who are languishing 12th spot on the ladder and aren’t showcasing the necessary consistency to challenge for a finals position.

If the Storm are missing their Origin stars, then I think the Warriors have a decent chance, but if they back up, Melbourne should have too much class and claim an eighth successive win over them on Saturday.
