Match Preview

Both the Cowboys and Warriors are yet to get going in 2019 - who can build some much-needed momentum by taking a valuable two points on Saturday?

North Queensland are 1-4 to start the season and finding themselves in the same predicament as last season, anchored near the bottom of the ladder and immediately playing catch-up in the charge for a finals spot.

While it’s way too early for gloom and doom, the Cowboys won’t want to lose too many more games in a row before things start to get a lot more daunting. Paul Green’s side were brave last week against the table-topping Storm, but ultimately they were outclassed by a 18-12 scoreline.

Nene McDonald is out injured with an ankle problem and is replaced by Justin O’Neill, while Scott Bolton returns for his first game of the season in place of Corey Jensen.

Meanwhile, the Warriors aren’t faring much better, posting a 2-3 record and languishing in 10th spot in the ladder after five rounds.

It’s been a typical up-and-down start to the season by the inconsistent Warriors, who started the year by putting 40 points on the Bulldogs, but have since failed to find the same spark and energy.

Stephen Kearney would have been pleased with his side’s effort against Souths last week though, with the Warriors going down 28-24 courtesy of a four-try haul by Cody Walker. Blake Green is back this week for the Warriors and comes into the side for Gerard Beale.

The Warriors have won their last two meetings, but this match-up is a big toss-up. Both sides are battling but coming off encouraging performances last week, despite losing. With Green returning to the side, the Warriors might have just enough points to hold the Cowboys out at home.
