Prediction

Match Preview

It’s an all-Queensland affair on Thursday night as the struggling Broncos and Cowboys attempt to keep pace with the top eight after disappointing losses last week.

Brisbane were actually tracking along quite nicely, going unbeaten in their last five games and rising into the eight, but they were brought crashing back down to earth last week, crushed 40-4 by competition leaders Melbourne.

Honestly, the Storm could have put 60 on the Broncos if they had taken all their chances, with the match illustrating just how far Brisbane are off the pace when it comes to the true big dogs of the competition.

The Broncos slipped to 10th as a result, but it’s not panic stations yet - they are only one point off seventh, and a win against the Cowboys will give them a good chance of reclaiming a finals spot this weekend.

Meanwhile, the situation is much more dire for the Cowboys. After their 28-4 loss to the Tigers last week, North Queensland have fallen to 13th on the table and four points adrift of the top eight.

It’s approaching must-win territory for the Cowboys, and if they can’t beat the Broncos at home, they can probably kiss their season goodbye.

Paul Green has made one change for this clash, with Gideon Gela-Mosby coming in on the wing for Murray Taulagi.

These two teams usually play extremely tight matches, with the 10 of the last 11 being decided by a 1-12 margin. However, the Broncos won their last clash 29-10 back in Round 2 and have generally being playing better the last few weeks, despite their reality check against Melbourne. I’ll back the Broncos home in a close one.
