Six teams will be cut to four as South Sydney Rabbitohs face Manly Sea Eagles and Melbourne Storm take on Parramatta Eels in Week 2 of the NRL Finals this weekend.

Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders both earned a week off and a spot in the preliminary finals with victories over the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Melbourne Storm respectively in the opening week of the finals, while Cronulla Sharks and Brisbane Broncos were eliminated in sudden-death fixtures.

It leaves us with two blockbuster showdowns this weekend, with the Rabbitohs hoping to bounce back from a heavy loss to the Roosters and Melbourne all of a sudden finding themselves in a do-or-die clash with the rampaging Eels.

The first game will take place on Friday September 20 as the Rabbitohs and Sea Eagles square off at ANZ Stadium. Souths were impressive when they conquered the Roosters in the last game of the regular season but when it mattered most they simply weren’t up to the task as the defending premiers emerged triumphant by a dominant 30-6 scoreline.

Souths now go onto face a Manly side that overcame numerous injury setbacks to continue their dominant record over Cronulla at Lottoland, prevailing 28-16 on Saturday night. The winner will set up a preliminary final clash with the Raiders in a fortnight at GIO Stadium.

Canberra were sensational in upsetting minor premiers Melbourne 12-10 at AAMI Park, earning a week off in the process and condemning the Storm into a sudden-death encounter with the Eels at AAMI Park on Saturday September 21.

The Storm have lost just five games all season, but two of them have come against Canberra, and now they must survive a confident Parramatta side to remain in the hunt for the premiership. The Eels made history on Sunday as the pummelled the Broncos 58-0 for the highest-ever winning margin in a finals game.
