Roosters face Storm in the Grand Final on Sunday

Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm clash for the 2018 NRL premiership in Sunday’s Grand Final showdown and we’ve picked out our three best bets for the big game!

Margin: Roosters 1-12

The Roosters and Storm are so evenly matched that it’s almost impossible to confidently back a winner, but with that being said, I am leaning on the side of the Tricolours - despite Billy Slater being cleared to play for Melbourne and Cooper Cronk in extreme doubt as he struggles to recover from a shoulder problem.

One thing I am quite confident of is this being a very tight game. Melbourne are favourites with the bookies, but I think this is a 50-50 contest - and their only previous meeting this season was decided by one point in Adelaide when the Storm won 9-8. There’s great value in picking a narrow Roosters triumph and I think the minor premiers are set to win their first premiership since 2013.

Total Match Points - Under 32.5

As mentioned, this will almost certainly be a low-scoring affair. The Roosters and Storm combined for just 17 points in their only other clash in 2018 earlier this season and I can see another encounter with minimal points playing out on Sunday night. The Roosters have the best defence in the competition and won’t leak many points, and if Cronk does end up playing, he will be less than 100 per cent and won’t be able to contribute as he normally would in attack.

The emphasis will be on defence rather than attack in a match-up between these two sides, and the Roosters have proven themselves to be the best in that department throughout the season. We have seen many Grand Finals in the past that have ended up being blow-outs (such as Melbourne falling 40-0 to Manly), but I’d be very surprised if one team ends up scoring more than 20 points in this one.

Tryfecta - Roosters, Storm, Roosters

As alluded to above, there might only be three tries in the entire Grand Final, and considering I’m backing the Roosters to emerge triumphant, I like these tryfecta odds.

I think the Roosters can get off to an early lead, but Melbourne will draw level at some stage, setting up a thrilling final 20 minutes. Step up Luke Keary or an injured Cronk with one shoulder and the Roosters will be walking away with the 2018 NRL premiership!
