One of the greatest honours a player can achieve is being best on ground in the NRL Grand Final - we’ve selected out our best bet for the Clive Churchill Medalist when the Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders square off in this Sunday’s showpiece at ANZ Stadium.

I’m backing the Roosters to emerge triumphant as they look to capture back-to-back premierships, and if that happens, one of them will be taking home the prestigious Clive Churchill Medal (only one player from a losing side has won the award since 1993).

Four of the last seven Clive Churchill Medalists have been a halfback or five-eighth, so I’m backing that trend to continue for my best bet.

Cooper Cronk was injured for last year’s Grand Final, but bravely took to the field in a leadership capacity more than anything as he guided his side to victory over Melbourne.

However, this year Cronk is fit and set to make up for what he couldn’t do with the ball in hand 12 months ago. Luke Keary was the man of the match in 2018, so it’s doubtful he will win it again unless he has an absolute blinder, which leaves Cronk at good odds to do so.

Most of the Roosters’ creativity comes on the back of Cronk, so if the halfback can lay on a couple of tries, he will build a strong case. Cronk is $6.00 to win the Clive Churchill Medal with online bookmaker Beteasy.

James Tedesco is the $4.50 favourite, while Luke Keary ($6.50), Josh Hodgson ($9.00) and Jack Wighton ($13) round out the top five.

Latrell Mitchell is solid value at $21, but a centre or a winger has never won the Clive Churchill Medal before.

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will be determined for an enormous game after missing last week through suspension and is $26 to become the first prop since 2008 to be man of the match in the Grand Final.
