After shock defeats last week, the Sydney Roosters and Newcastle Knights look to bounce back to the winners circle when they square off in one of the headline matches of NRL Round 18.

Having slipped to fourth spot following a rough patch of form, the Roosters are in danger of falling out of the top four if they don’t raise their level. After falling to the Cowboys in Round 17, the Roosters face another team who suffered a disappointing defeat in the first game on Super Saturday, with Newcastle slipping to seventh on the back of their loss to Canterbury.

Round 18 kicks off at Suncorp Stadium as Brisbane Broncos play host to Canterbury Bulldogs. The Broncos need to win to keep their top eight chances alive following last week’s draw with the Warriors, while the Bulldogs are going for their third straight victory after surprise triumphs against Cronulla and Newcastle.

New Zealand Warriors and Cronulla Sharks clash to open Friday night footy at Westpac Stadium. It’s a crucial match for both teams, who sit outside the top eight after failing to win their Round 17 games.

After sitting rock bottom on the table a couple of months ago, the Penrith Panthers have skyrocketed up to eighth on the back of six consecutive wins - can they extend their streak to seven when they host St. George Illawarra Dragons in the second game on Friday?

Meanwhile, Canberra Raiders have moved up to third on the ladder following their big win over the Dragons, with the Green Machine looking to continue their good form when they meet Wests Tigers in the second game on Saturday at GIO Stadium. The Tigers are coming off their second defeat to Parramatta this season, losing 30-18 at Bankwest on Sunday.

North Queensland Cowboys are up to 10th on the ladder after their shock win over the Roosters - can they make it two top four scalps in a row when they host the South Sydney Rabbitohs in Townsville on Saturday night?

Fresh from a comfortable win over Cronulla for Cameron Smith’s 400th game, Melbourne Storm are sitting pretty with a six-point lead at the top of the ladder - and they will be heavily-fancied to win again when they meet the bottom-placed Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday.

Round 18 action concludes at Lottoland as traditional rivals Manly Sea Eagles and Parramatta Eels collide in a top-eight showdown.
