Penrith Panthers go in search of their eighth consecutive victory when they take on fourth-placed Canberra Raiders in the pick of the NRL Round 19 matches this weekend.

It’s been a superb last couple of months for the Panthers, who have gone from last place to the top eight on the back of seven straight wins, including a thumping 40-18 triumph over the Dragons last week. Up next for Ivan Cleary’s side is the in-form Raiders on Sunday at Panthers Stadium, with Canberra cementing their top four status with an eight-point win over the Tigers.

Round 19 kicks off on Thursday night at PointsBet Stadium when Cronulla Sharks play host to North Queensland Cowboys. The Sharks have been struggling for the last month or so and were defeated by one point by the Warriors last week, while the Cowboys will also be hoping to return to the winners circle after going down to the Rabbitohs at home last week.

Newcastle Knights attempt to snap a run of three successive defeats in the first game on Friday when they clash with Wests Tigers a McDonald Jones Stadium. The Knights were hammered by the Roosters in Round 18, while the Tigers missed a chance to break into the top eight as they were toppled by Canberra.

The second game on Friday night pits old rivals South Sydney Rabbitohs up against St George Illawarra Dragons at ANZ Stadium. The Dragons have been in woeful form this season and have lost nine of their last 11 games as they prepare to face a Rabbitohs side who has got back to winning ways recently with victories over Manly and North Queensland.

Super Saturday starts at Bankwest Stadium as Parramatta Eels square off against New Zealand Warriors. The Eels will be looking for an immediate response after going down to Manly on Sunday, while the Warriors will be hoping to build on a one-point win over Cronulla.

It’s an all-Queensland affair next on Saturday as Gold Coast Titans entertain Brisbane Broncos at Cbus Super Stadium. The Broncos registered a much-needed win over Canterbury last week to keep their top eight hopes alive, while the Titans remain anchored to the bottom of the ladder following their loss to Melbourne.

Speaking of the competition leaders, the Storm have an old-school grudge match in the final game on Saturday night as they meet Manly at AAMI Park. Both sides bring winning momentum into this one, with Melbourne maintaining a six-point lead at the top of the table courtesy of their win over Gold Coast, while Manly moved up to fifth with their strong performance against the Eels.

Round 19 finishes up on Sunday afternoon as the Sydney Roosters and Canterbury Bulldogs lock horns a ANZ Stadium. The Roosters got back into their groove with a big win over Newcastle, while the Bulldogs stayed in second-last following their loss to Brisbane.
