Newcastle Knights need to extend their recent dominance over Parramatta Eels to get their season back on track when the two sides clash in NRL Round 21 action on Saturday.

Eels vs Knights kicks off at 5.30pm AEST at Bankwest Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Prediction

Match Preview

Newcastle have won 11 of their last 13 matches against Parramatta, but the Eels have won six of their last seven at Bankwest, while the Knights are on a five-match losing run - something has to give when the two sides square off for a valuable two points on Saturday.

It wasn’t long ago that the Knights were looking like genuine top four challengers, but they’ve put together a horrible last month or so, losing their last five games, with their last win coming on June 29 against Brisbane.

All of a sudden, Nathan Brown and his team are languishing outside the top eight and with a mountain to climb to regain a finals spot.

Newcastle need Mitchell Pearce and Kalyn Ponga to return to their best, but they can’t do it without a good platform being set by their forwards. Newcastle were well off the pace last week in a 30-6 loss to Manly, but Brown has stuck with the same 17 players for this encounter.

Meanwhile, the Eels are rolling along nicely in sixth position with 11 wins from 19 matches this season and have a solid four-point buffer from those in the chasing pack.

Parramatta scored an important victory away from Bankwest last week against the Dragons, grinding them down in a business-like 12-4 triumph. It wasn’t pretty, but it was the type of gritty football that will please Brad Arthur as the Eels look to go deep into September.

Arthur has also named the same team that beat the Dragons for this showdown, and with Parramatta returning to Bankwest, he will be confident of putting a big score on the struggling Knights.

As mentioned, Newcastle have dominated this fixture, but they haven’t showed any signs they are ready to continue that record on Saturday. With the Eels steady and playing their best football at Bankwest, it would be a big surprise if the Knights were able to turn things around in this one.

Match Odds

Parramatta Eels - $1.68
Newcastle Knights - $2.20
