Match Preview

After pushing the Dragons all the way earlier this season, can the Eels go one step further and topple the struggling top four side on Saturday night?

It seems strange to describe a top four side as ‘struggling’, but that’s exactly the stigma surrounding the Dragons at the moment.

St George Illawarra have lost four of their last five matches and are down to fourth on the ladder after leading the competition a month ago.

All of a sudden they are just a couple of wins ahead of eighth spot and have a real fight on their hands to avoid a sudden death encounter in the first week of the finals.

Origin has seemingly affected the Dragons as they haven’t really been the same since the middle of the season - can they turn things around, or are they limping to the finish line?

Parramatta may be bottom of the table, but they are in better form than the Dragons right now, winning two of their last three games and scoring 18 or more points in five of their last seven.

The Eels have defeated the Bulldogs and Titans and lost by just six points to competition leaders Souths in their last three games - and if they can beat the Dragons on Saturday night, they could haul themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

Parramatta have a great record against the Dragons, winning six of their last seven meetings and only falling by two points earlier this season. St George Illawarra have a history of capitulating at this stage of the season and it could be happening again. Back the Eels home for the upset.
