Prediction

Match Preview

A crucial clash with top eight implications awaits on Friday night as the Sharks and Panthers collide in Round 21.

Cronulla had been in dire form up until two weeks ago, when they edged the Cowboys by two points, but they went to another level last week, taking out top four side Souths 39-24 to surge into the top eight at the expense of the Panthers.

The Sharks have most of their key figures back on deck and have put themselves into a position where they control their own destiny as far as finals footy is concerned.

John Morris will be hoping he’s seen the worst of his side over the last couple of months and that they are now making a fresh charge towards the finals. Only one change from last week’s victorious side, with Josh Dugan shifting to fullback for Matt Moylan, who is out with concussion. Sosaia Feki comes onto the wing.

Meanwhile, after putting together a seven-match winning streak to fire into the top eight from bottom spot, the Panthers have lost their last two games, and with it, all of their momentum.

A loss to the Raiders certainly wasn’t cause for concern, but a last-start 16-8 defeat to the struggling Bulldogs definitely is.

To make matters worse, James Maloney will miss this game after being suspended for tripping, leaving Nathan Cleary as the lone man in charge.

Add in Penrith’s woeful recent record against the Sharks, and this could be a tough night for the home side. Cronulla are starting to click and if they play like they did against Souths, they should be too strong in this one.
