Match Preview

What a turnaround it’s been from the Panthers as Ivan Cleary’s side target their seventh win on the trot and look to cement their top eight status against the struggling Dragons on Friday night.

Written off as finals contenders after being anchored to the bottom of the ladder just a couple of months ago, the Panthers have gone on a tremendous run to surge up the table and into eighth spot before the start of Round 18.

Now, incredibly, the top four doesn’t seem out of reach for the Panthers if they can continue their great form, with the team only four points shy of the Roosters.

There’s another boost for the Panthers for this clash as Nathan Cleary returns from injury to partner Origin teammate James Maloney in the halves.

While the Panthers are flying high, the opposite can be said for the Dragons, who have endured a tough season and head into this encounter in 14th spot on the ladder.

Usually the Dragons have a superb start to the season before running out of steam going into the finals, but this year they must find something immediately - and keep winning from here on in - to stand a chance of making a late charge into the eight.

The Dragons just aren’t clicking this season and lost 36-14 to a Raiders side that played almost half the game with a man sent off last week.

At home and in their current form, the Panthers should be able to register a seventh straight victory and continue their charge up the ladder.
