Prediction

Match Preview

South Sydney look to further cement their top four status when they face the 15th-placed Bulldogs on Saturday night.

The Rabbitohs are somewhat fortunate to still be in the top four after their 10-point loss to Melbourne last week, because if Manly beat the Warriors like they were expected to do, then the Sea Eagles most likely would have leapfrogged them into fourth.

As it stands, the Rabbitohs are still clinging onto fourth, but the Sea Eagles and Eels are just two points behind and arguably playing better football at the moment.

While the Rabbitohs have been in the top four all season, they are a far cry from the team that won nine of their first 10 games of the season. Having lost their last two matches, can the Rabbitohs come home with a wet sail? Or will they stumble into the finals?

Canterbury, although second-last on the ladder, will be no pushovers on Saturday night. Dean Pay has done a great job of inspiring his side to compete all season, and their persistence in that regard has been rewarded recently, with the Bulldogs winning four of their last six matches to jump six points clear of the Titans in last place.

The Bulldogs have played spoiler for teams chasing a finals spot in their last two games, beating the Panthers and Tigers on the back of some strong defence.

Souths are favourites, and I do think they will have too much class, but don’t discount the Doggies. They are enjoying their football at the moment and playing without pressure, which has allowed them to release the shackles somewhat. I’m backing the Bunnies home in a tight one, but don’t be surprised if the Dogs cause another boilover.
