Are we in for another nail-biter as the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Manly Sea Eagles square off for a place in the NRL preliminary finals on Friday night?

Rabbitohs vs Sea Eagles kicks off at 7.50pm AEST at ANZ Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports and Channel 9 in Australia.

Match Preview

Souths and Manly have already played out two thrilling contests in 2019 and Friday night’s qualifying final promises to be every bit as entertaining as one team advances to within one win of the Grand Final.

The Sea Eagles got the better of the Rabbitohs back in Round 4 by a 13-12 scoreline at Lottoland, but Souths returned the favour in Round 17, prevailing 21-20 at ANZ Stadium.

After a difficult period after Origin, the Rabbitohs appeared to have recaptured their best form as they ended the regular season on a three-match winning streak, including conquering the Roosters in a brilliant performance. However, when push came to shove, Souths were no match for the reigning premiers in the opening week of the finals, with the Roosters racing out of the blocks to lead 26-0 at half-time and emerge comfortable 30-6 winners.

It was a disappointing display from Souths, and Wayne Bennett will demand significant improvement for this encounter. They do receive a big boost, with Sam Burgess and Dane Gagai both returning from suspension and injury respectively, with Jaydn Su'A and Corey Allan dropping out.

Meanwhile, Manly have defied the odds all season and did it once again last weekend, overcoming a host of injuries to key figures as they toppled Cronulla 28-16 at Lottoland.

With Martin Taupau, Tom Trbojevic, Joel Thompson and Curtis Sironen all on the sidelines, Manly rose to the occasion and shut down a Cronulla side that was brimming with confidence having won a sudden-death game against the Tigers the previous week to qualify for the finals.

Des Hasler loves it when his side has their backs against the wall, but I think their outstanding season comes to an end on Friday night. Souths are a different class and they most likely won’t dish out another slow start like last week. The Sea Eagles will battle bravely, but the Rabbitohs should have too much class on the back of Burgess and Gagai’s returns.

Match Odds

South Sydney Rabbitohs - $1.46
Manly Sea Eagles - $2.72
