Anthony Albanese is the frontrunner to become the next Labor leader after Bill Shorten stepped down following the 2019 Australian Federal Election loss.

The Coalition, led by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, prevailed in the May 18 election which was a shock to many after the Australian Labor Party were long odds-on to claim victory.

Immediately following the election result, Labor leader Bill Shorten conceded defeat to the Coalition and stepped down as leader of his party.

Anthony Albanese, also known as Albo, is currently the $1.35 favourite to be the next Labor leader. The Labor MP holds the seat for the Division of Grayndler and at the time of writing, with 77.08% of votes counted, Albanese has a +1.59% swing with the two-candidate preferred (TCP). First preference votes for Albanese are a positive swing of +5.89%.

Chris Bowen, the MP for the Division of McMahon and Shadow Treasurer, is second favourite at $3. He was the Interim Leader of the Labor Party in 2013, before not contesting the leadership spill which saw Shorten prevail over Albanese.

Jim Chalmers is the only other person in single figures at $4.50. The Labor MP represents the Division of Rankin.
