Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers will be out to extend their unbeaten starts to the A-League season heading into Round 5 action this weekend.

City launch Round 5 on Friday night when they play host to Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park. Despite suffering a heavy 4-0 loss to Adelaide in the FFA Cup final, City have been extremely impressive in the A-League across the first four rounds and come into this match on top of the table after edging Wellington 3-2 on Sunday, while the Mariners also bring good form into this clash after upsetting Perth in their last outing.

Still searching for their first win of the season, Newcastle Jets entertain Perth Glory in the first match on Saturday at McDonald Jones Stadium. The Jets were never in the hunt during a 4-1 loss to Sydney on Friday night, while Glory will be determined to bounce back after their shock home defeat to Central Coast.

After their thrilling derby triumph over Melbourne Victory, Western United will be aiming to become the first team to beat Western Sydney Wanderers when the two sides square off on Saturday night at CMHBA Stadium. United came back from 2-0 down in the first 10 minutes to beat Victory 3-2, while the Wanderers were held to a scoreless draw at home to Brisbane.

Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix will both be hoping to rebound from respective 3-2 defeats in Round 4 when they face off in the first game on Sunday at AAMI Park, while FFA Cup champions Adelaide United return from last week’s bye to host Brisbane Roar in the final game of the round at Coopers Stadium. Brisbane are still winless for the season after drawing 0-0 with the Wanderers, but have only lost one game.

Sydney FC have the bye this week.
