Only four A-League games take place this upcoming weekend, with Sunday’s Big Blue between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory headlining Round 6 action.

Victory remain outside the top six with just one win from five games this season after slumping to a 1-1 draw at home against the winless Wellington Phoenix in Round 5. Having let slip of a 2-0 win inside 10 minutes the previous week against Western United, Victory will need significant improvement if they are to get a positive result at Jubilee Stadium on Sunday, with Sydney well-rested after last weekend’s bye and a last-start 4-1 demolition of the Jets.

Round 6 gets underway on Saturday afternoon in Gosford as Central Coast Mariners play host to Adelaide United. The Mariners failed to back up their big win away to Perth last week, falling 3-1 to Melbourne City, while Adelaide claimed a late winner at home to Brisbane to move up to fifth spot on the ladder.

Western United then look to continue their brilliant start to the season against the struggling Newcastle Jets at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night. United registered their third win of the season as they became the first team to beat Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night, leapfrogging them into second place on the table as a result, while Newcastle couldn’t hold onto their lead against Perth, conceding late to finish with a 1-1 draw as they continue to search for their first win of the season.

Meanwhile, Melbourne City will be out to extend their unbeaten start to the A-League season when they travel to Redcliffe to square off against Brisbane Roar on Sunday. City were dominant 3-1 winners over the Mariners in their last outing as they surged to the top of the table, while Brisbane are still without a win after conceding late to Adelaide.

Wellington Phoenix, Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory all have the bye this week.
