After a slow start to the season, can Melbourne Victory get back on track when they host Perth Glory to kick off A-League Round 8 action on Friday night?

Victory and Glory both find themselves languishing outside the top six after seven rounds - but they could end Round 8 inside a finals spot by taking all three points when they clash at AAMI Park on Friday night. Both teams come into the match on the back of 3-1 defeats, with Victory going down to Adelaide and Perth falling to Sydney.

Central Coast Mariners will look to make it back-to-back wins and consolidate their spot in the top six when they travel north to face Brisbane Roar in the first game on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium. The Mariners upset Western United 1-0 on Sunday, while Brisbane couldn’t build on their big win over Melbourne City, losing 2-1 across the ditch to Wellington.

After registering their first win of the season two weeks ago before the bye in Round 7, Newcastle Jets will be out to pick up from where they left off against Western United when they entertain Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night. The Wanderers meanwhile will be determined to return to the winners circle after failing to emerge victorious over the last four weeks, dating back to their derby triumph over Sydney FC in Round 3.

Western United are on a two-match losing run against the Jets and Mariners as they prepare for the visit of reigning premiers Sydney FC to Geelong in the first game on Sunday. Sydney are the form team in the competition and conquered Perth 3-1 in their last outing.

Round 8 action comes to a close at Coopers Stadium as Adelaide United square off against Wellington Phoenix. Adelaide are up to third on the ladder as they continued their blistering run of form since winning the FFA Cup, toppling Victory 3-1 last week, while Wellington are coming off their first win of the season last week against Brisbane.

Melbourne City have the bye this week.
