Match Preview

It wasn't the dream start to life in charge of the Socceroos for Van Marwijk, who saw his debut as coach end in defeat as his new Australia side were beaten 4-1 by Norway in Oslo.

Jackson Irvine's first-ever goal in green and gold opened the scoring, but it was all downhill from there as Norway levelled before the break and struck three times in the second-half to claim a dominant victory.

The Socceroos get the chance to put things right with a quick turnaround as the face Colombia at Craven Cottage, home of Fulham, in London in the latest preparation for the World Cup.

Having been drawn in Group C with France, Denmark and Peru for the finals in Russia, the friendly with Colombia gives Australia the chance to familiarise themselves playing against South American opposition.

Jose Pekerman's Colombia defeated France 3-2 in a friendly at the weekend as they came back from 2-0 down, and they will be firm favourites to back up that success as they finalise their own preparations for the World Cup finals in Russia.

Quarter-finalists in Brazil four years ago, another big tournament looks likely with Colombia having enjoyed a favourable draw in Group H along with Japan, Poland and Senegal.

This Colombia side, led impressively by James Rodriguez, is ranked 24 places above the Socceroos but the gulf in class in terms of personnel is far greater and that should show when they meet at Craven Cottage. It looks set to be back-to-back defeats as Australia coach for Van Marwijk.
