Australia and South Korea clash in a rematch of the 2015 Asian Cup final when the two nations square off in an international friendly in Brisbane on Saturday night.

Socceroos vs South Korea kicks off at 7.50pm AEDT at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Match Preview

After easing past Kuwait 4-0 last month, a clash with Asian juggernauts South Korea looms as the perfect test for Graham Arnold and his Socceroos side as the team continue preparations for their upcoming Asian Cup title defence.

The two teams haven’t met since that glorious night at ANZ Stadium, when a James Troisi strike in extra-time sealed the Socceroos the Asian Cup silverware for the first time.

In just his second game in charge of the national team, Arnold will be determined to earn a win over a more-fancied opponent before the Asian Cup begins in January. Arnold has made his intentions clear in regards to the style of play he wants the Socceroos to perform under his tutelage.

“If I can sort of replicate it, and make it easier, I’d say a bit like Liverpool play and Paris Saint-Germain, with three No. 9s," he said.

“Three players with pace, three players that are good in a one-v-one action and players that can make a difference. Then with full-backs up high and giving us the width.

“It’s a modern day system and about numbers and getting players in the right areas to score goals.”

A season-ending ACL injury to Daniel Arzani is a big blow towards those plans, but Arnold is set to give a Socceroos debut to speedy Hibs winger Martin Boyle, who will set foot in Australia for the first time this week. Add in the electric pace of Matthew Leckie and Jamie Maclaren - and the muscular Andrew Nabbout - and Arnold has multiple options for his attacking third, in front of the skilful Aaron Mooy and Tom Rogic.

Meanwhile, South Korea will be without their two biggest stars in Australia, with EPL duo Son Heung-min and Ki Sung-yeung both omitted from the squad.

South Korea are unbeaten since exiting the World Cup in the group stage (although they did stun reigning champions Germany 2-0), beating Costa Rica and Uruguay and drawing with Panama and Chile.

It’s a solid run of form that will certainly present the Socceroos with more than a few problems come Saturday night. Australia usually perform better at home against the bigger Asian sides, and with Arnold’s new philosophy, we can expect to see quite an open game. However, with South Korea missing their two best players, I’m leaning on the side of the Socceroos to get the job done in Brisbane.
