  • English Premier League Week 5 Tips, Predictions and Preview

After a week off, English Premier League action returns and what a week it is. The most intriguing match looks to be Watford v Man United. Man United are looking to score successive victories for the first time this season, while Watford is yet to drop a point.

We preview Week 5 and give full previews, prediction and bets.

Tottenham v Liverpool

What a match to start week 5. The Tottenham Hotspurs return home after a two-game road trip that included a convincing 3-0 victory against Man United that had everyone talking about the Spurs as title contenders. That conversation was short-lived, as the Spurs showed their consistency issues, dropping a game they had in control against Watford, losing 2-1. Liverpool has had the perfect start to their Premier League season, scoring full points with four convincing victories.

Chelsea v Cardiff

Chelsea is one of only three teams to have scored full points after week 4 of the EPL and that trend is set to continue when they host Cardiff. Chelsea has proved themselves as a title contender, keeping a clean net against Bournemouth and Huddersfield while scoring a terrific 3-2 victory against Arsenal. Cardiff, on the other hand, has yet to record a victory this season. They failed to score in their first three games before an improved 2-3 loss to Arsenal.

Bournemouth v Leicester

Bournemouth suffered their first defeat of the Premier League when they faced Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea dominated proceedings, having 24 shots on goal to only eight for Bournemouth. Bournemouth returns home and faces Leicester who has a 2-0-2 record after four weeks. They have been impressive, with their two losses both being 1-2 defeats to Liverpool and Man United. I can’t split these two sides.

Huddersfield v Crystal Palace

Huddersfield has had a horror start to their 2018 Premier League campaign and will be desperate for a victory at home against Crystal Palace who hasn’t tasted victory since defeating Fulham in the opening week. Huddersfield has only conceded one goal since their horror 1-6 loss to Man City but it has only resulted in a 1-1 draw against Everton. Crystal Palace has only scored one goal in their last three matches.

Newcastle v Arsenal

Newcastle remains winless and will need a repeat of their victory at home against the Gunners last season to kick-start their season. Newcastle hasn’t played too badly, with narrow 1-2 losses to Man City, Chelsea and Tottenham seeing them 18th on the EPL table. Arsenal struggled to a 3-2 victory against the lowly Cardiff the week after an easy kill against West Ham. I’m with the upset here.

Man City v Fulham

Man City has scored eight goals in two home games and should continue that trend against Fulham who has allowed at least two goals in all four of their Premier League matches this season. Fulham is fresh off a 2-2 draw against Brighton whilst unsurprisingly, Man City remains undefeated following their 2-1 victory against Newcastle.

Watford v Man United

Man United got their Premier League back on track with a 2-0 victory against Burnley and will be looking to score successive victories for the first time this season when they face Watford, who is yet to drop a point after four matches. Watford hasn’t put a foot wrong, with successive 2-1 home victories against Tottenham and Crystal Palace giving them a 4-0-0 record. Can Man U get an all-important victory? We think it’s likely but cannot take the price. I’ll play the draw instead.

Wolves v Burnley

Burnley sit second-last on the EPL table, without a win and things don’t get any easier when they travel to face Wolverhampton. The Wolves are the only team to take a point off Man City so far this season. They backed up their 1-1 draw against City with a gritty 1-0 victory against West Ham. The Wolves return home and should continue on their winning ways.

Everton v West Ham

Everton is on the back of three consecutive draws against Huddersfield (1-1), Bournemouth (2-2) and Wolves (2-2). They will be looking to get back on the winners list when they host the lowly West Ham at Goodison Park. West Ham is yet to score a point in the Premier League and have a -7 goal differential after four matches. They have a -6 goal differential in two away matches and should be outclassed by Everton.

Southampton v Brighton

Southampton will be aiming for consecutive victories after scoring their first win of the Premier League against Crystal Palace in Round 4. Brighton showed terrific signs with a 3-2 victory over Man United in Week 2 but have failed to recapture that form in the last fortnight, with a 0-1 loss against Liverpool and a 2-2 draw against Fulham. Brighton has struggled away from home so far this season and for that reason, I’m siding with Southampton.
