The two rivals meet at Anfield, while another big game sees Borussia Dortmund clash with Tottenham

Here is our guide to the best Europa League bets on Thursday:

Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham

To say Tottenham were handed the toughest test possible in the last-16 would be an understatement. Borussia Dortmund are the overwhelming favourites in the outright betting market and it is not hard to see why. They are now unbeaten in their last 11 games in all competitions following the weekend draw against Bayern Munich and their home form has been superb in recent months with only two of their last 12 opponents taking something from the Westafalenstadion. Spurs can keep themselves in the tie, but they will find themselves needing to overturn a deficit when the two clubs meet for the second leg at White Hart Lane.

Recommended Bet: Borussia Dortmund to win ($1.62 bet365)

Shakhtar Donetsk v Anderlecht

Shakhtar Donetsk go into this match in good form having won their last three games and having seen them beat Schalke 04 in the last round, I have to like their chances of beating Anderlecht on home soil. The Belgian side scraped past Olympiakos in the last round and their away form has been far from impressive this season, so it is hard to see them achieving a positive result in Russia.

Recommended Bet: Shakhtar Donetsk to win ($1.70 bet365)

Athletic Bilbao v Valencia

Athletic Bilbao registered their third straight win at the weekend, extending their unbeaten record to four games, and that means they go into this meeting with Valencia in good form. These two clubs met only a couple of weeks ago and it was Bilbao who ran out 3-0 winners at the Mestalla, while they were also successful when these two teams met at San Mames in October. The home side should complete a hat-trick of wins on Thursday night.

Recommended Bet: Athletic Bilbao to win ($1.75 Unibet)

Liverpool v Manchester United

This is easily the most eagerly-anticipated tie of the round, with two long-time rivals going head-to-head in this competition for the first time. Liverpool have responded well to their Capital One Cup final defeat, beating Manchester City and Crystal Palace last week, and I like their chances of making it three-in-a-row. Manchester United did win at Anfield earlier this season, but their away form remains underwhelming and I am backing the Reds to get their revenge her.

Recommended Bet: Liverpool to win ($2.15 bet365)

Villarreal v Bayer Leverkusen

Villarreal will be looking to make the most of home-field advantage when they entertain Bayer Leverkusen, but I am not convinced they will claim a first leg lead. They have won just one of their last five games in all competitions and the goals have hardly been flowing. In fact, they are one of the lowest scoring sides in Spain. Opponents Leverkusen are not great travellers, so they will look to keep things tight at the back and ensure they are at least on level terms going into the second. A stalemate could well be on the cards here.

Recommended Bet: Draw ($3.40 bet365)
