Melbourne Victory face Hume City on Wednesday night

Victorian part-timers Hume City will look to cause the biggest boilover in FFA Cup history when they do battle with reigning A-League champions Melbourne Victory on Wednesday night.

Victory and Hume kick off at 7.30pm AEDT at AAMI Park. Watch and bet on the game live online at bet365.

Hume City secured their spot in the semi-finals with a pulsating 3-2 extra-time triumph over Oakleigh Cannons, while Victory overcame defending champions Adelaide United to book their ticket to the final four.

Workers by day and footballers by night, Hume City face the mightiest of challenges to keep their FFA Cup fairytale alive.

Hume manager Lou Acevski says most of his players have taken the day off work in order to prepare as professionally as possible for this encounter.

All except Year 12 student and 18-year-old defender Matthew Hennessey, who first must complete his VCE English exam before linking up with his teammates in the afternoon.

It’s been quite the journey for Hume in the competition. Granted with the way the draw is constructed they haven’t had to face A-League opposition until this stage, but they fully deserve their place in the semis.

The PS4 NPL club produced an epic extra-time win over the Cannons in the quarter-finals and also survived a torrid battle with Brisbane Strikers in the Round of 32, eventually coming away 4-3 winners after extra-time.

Hume also have good memories from their recent friendly meeting with Victory, which ended in a 4-3 win to the A-League side - but only after they pulled off a houdini effort, scoring twice in the dying minutes.

Speaking of Kevin Muscat’s troops, they undoubtedly go into this clash as the biggest of favourites. Playing at a home with a star-studded squad and the title of reigning A-League champions under their belt, anything other than a comfortable Victory win would be a shock of epic proportions.

With the likes of Besart Berisha, Gui Finkler, Kosta Barbarouses and Fahid Ben Khalfallah in their line-up, Hume will be hard-pressed to keep them at bay throughout the contest.

Stinging after a surprise loss to the Newcastle Jets last Friday night, Victory will throw everything at Hume in order to swiftly return to the winners circle and advance to a final date with Perth Glory.

Prediction:

Hume have had an enjoyable run but it has to end here. It would arguably be the greatest upset in Australian club football history if they progressed to the final. Expect Victory to bounce back emphatically.
