Sydney v Suwon begins at 7.30pm AEST at Allianz Stadium and will be broadcoast live on Fox Sports.

Prediction

Match Preview

Sydney FC make a fourth appearance in the AFC Champions League and the in-form A-League premiers will be out to make the perfect start when they host Suwon Bluewings on Matchday 1.

Pitched into a tough group that also includes J-League runners-up Kashima Antlers and Chinese FA Cup winners Shanghai Shenhua, it is a home game against Suwon that offers the Sky Blues arguably the easiest start to the campaign.

The Bluewings qualified for the competition after finishing third in the K-League and needed to come through a qualification play-off to reach this stage, which they did with a 5-1 defeat of Vietnamese side FLC Thanh Hoa.

Having reached the Round of 16 two years ago, Graham Arnold will harbour greater hopes with this Sydney FC side - one which has dominated domestically and which is one course for back-to-back premiers plates.

Having topped the A-League ladder last season before defeating Melbourne Victory in the Grand Final, Sydney are repeating those exploits and could be on course to set new points records for a 27-game season.

They take on Suwon, who will include former Sydney defender Matthew Jurman, having opened up a 12-point gap at the top with a 4-0 victory over Melbourne City on Saturday and have now dropped just 11 points all season.

Suwon are two-time winners of the AFC Champions League having been crowned Asian champions in 2001 and 2002, but they haven't played in the competition since 2011.

While this Sydney side hasn't got the same experience or record in the Asian continental competition, the Sky Blues know how to win games and get the job done and I expect that to be the case on Wednesday night.
