Western Sydney Wanderers aim for their fourth straight win over Central Coast Mariners when the two struggling sides square off in A-League Round 18 action on Saturday.

Prediction

Match Preview

With just three wins between them across the first 17 rounds, who steps up and claims a rare three points as the Wanderers and Mariners clash on Saturday at Spotless?

Finals football is out of the equation for both of these sides with 10 rounds remaining, with the incentive now to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

Central Coast are currently anchored to the bottom of the ladder after just one win, three points behind Brisbane and four behind the Wanderers.

The Mariners have improved over the last month or so, grabbing that first win over City and pushing Victory all the way last week, leading 2-0 at half-time only to lose 3-2 after a tense second half.

Lasting 90 minutes has been the issue for Central Coast all season - they’ve actually been leading at half-time in three of their last four away games, but they are on a eight-match losing streak away from Gosford, highlighting their inability to put matches away.

Meanwhile, the Wanderers come into this fixture on the back of an embarrassing 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle last week.

It was a new low for Western Sydney this season and extended their winless run at ANZ Stadium to seven matches - they will be happy this clash is at Spotless!

One shining light for the Wanderers was former Socceroos Mitchell Duke, who has returned to the A-League from Asia and scored after just 21 seconds and was lively since coming on midway through the second half.

Pride is on the line for these two teams, with the Wanderers winning their last three meetings. Markus Babbel will demand a response from his team, and with the Mariners struggling away from home, I’ll back the Wanderers in a scrappy encounter.

Match Odds

Western Sydney Wanderers - $1.67
