Sydney FC have the top of the table in their sights as they come up against the struggling Western United in A-League Round 8 action on Sunday in Geelong.

United vs Sydney kicks off at 4.00pm AEDT at GMHBA Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports in Australia.

Prediction

Match Preview

Sydney are in blistering form and will be looking to inflict a third straight loss on United when the two sides clash on Sunday afternoon.

Their derby defeat to the Wanderers seemingly clicked Sydney into gear, with the Sky Blues winning their last three games, scoring nine goals in the process.

Sydney have dominated Newcastle, Victory and Perth over their last three games and will propel themselves into first spot if they claim a point against United on Sunday, with City having the bye.

However, in their current form, nothing less than all three points will do for Steve Corica and his team as Sydney continue their premiership defence.

Meanwhile, United have fallen off after a great start to their life in the A-League, losing their last two games and slipping to fifth on the ladder.

It’s the manner in which they’ve lost those games against the Jets and Mariners that is most concerning, with United now failing to score a goal for the last 212 minutes of play - despite being equipped with the likes of Alessandro Diamanti, Besart Berisha and Scott McDonald in their team.

Central Coast hadn’t kept a clean sheet for 38 matches before doing so against United last week, which gives a good insight into how much they are struggling in front of goal at the moment.

This will obviously be the first meeting between the two sides, but it’s impossible to look past Sydney in their current form. United need a massive turnaround to take something from this match, but it’s unlikely to come against the reigning premiers.

Match Odds

Sydney FC - $2.37
Western United - $2.87
Draw - $3.40
