Conor McGregor makes his return at UFC 246 when he fights Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
“The Notorious” Conor McGregor was last seen at UFC 229 suffering a submission loss to the unbeaten Khabib Nurmagomedov who won the UFC Lightweight Championship in that fight.
McGregor put on a couple of classic fights against Nate Diaz in 2016. Diaz won the first bout before McGregor would win via majority decision.
McGregor v Cerrone Odds
Conor McGregor has been $1.42 into $1.31 and a clear-cut favourite against Donald Cerrone who is $2.85 out to $3.45.
McGregor v Cerrone Preview
Nicknamed Cowboy, Cerrone has lost his past two fights; he was beaten by Tony Ferguson at UFC 238 via TKO due to a doctor stoppage. He would then lose via TKO to Justin Gaethje.
Entering this fight, McGregor boasts a 21-4 record, while Cowboy has a 36-13-1NC record.
McGregor is $1.48 to win via KO/TKO. Of his 21 wins, 18 have come by way of knockout. Back in December, we recommended that McGregor would win via this method when the odds were $1.70, but the price has shortened significantly since then.
There is no doubt that McGregor will be out to make a statement. The last thing the Irishman will want to do at his return is to suffer a loss. Without a single fight in 2019, there should be no excuses for McGregor; Cowboy fought four times last year.
McGregor’s list of victims is impressive with knockout wins over Dustin Poirier in 2014 and Jose Aldo and Eddie Alvarez in 2016. He also beat Max Holloway via unanimous decision in 2013.
Despite giving away a height advantage in this fight, McGregor will have a slight one-inch reach advantage.
McGregor v Cerrone Tips
McGregor can have a successful return to the Octagon on January 19 with a KO/TKO victory over Cowboy.
With the current price of $1.48 for McGregor to win by KO/TKO, we will instead look at the Exact Method of Victory market. McGregor to win by TKO/KO via punches at $1.88 looks a good bet.
