Australia will look to continue upon their international Ashes form when they tackle Sri Lanka in the short format on Friday night at the SCG.

They have been the standout nation in the short format recently, winning the T20 World Cup late last year. They have also dominated the recent meetings against Sri Lanka, winning the previous five clashes.

Australia will be without opener David Warner and Ashes Player Of The Series Travis Head for the opening clash of the series, leaving them starved for left-handed options in the batting order.

However, it will be intriguing to see how they perform following the resignation of coach Justin Langer just a few days ago. Former all-rounder Andrew McDonald will take charge as interim coach in the meantime.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has played a lot of Twenty20 cricket in recent months following the build-up to the World Cup last year. They have a strong record against the lesser nations but have struggled when coming up against the heavyweights of cricket.

Although most recently, they downed Zimbabwe 2-1 in an ODI series. They bowled Zimbabwe out for 70 after polling a competitive score of 254.

They are not far behind Australia in the ICC rankings and a strong series here will set a good base for the upcoming World Cup in Australia this year.

Australia has been arguably the best side in the world at the moment in all three formats of the game, and I don’t see them falling short against Sri Lanka in the first match of the series.
