Strikers vs Thunder Tips, Preview & Prediction
It is a back-to-back match for both teams as they played on Sunday with the Strikers winning by six runs. Batting first, Adelaide finished with 6/159 as Brendan Doggett took 2/21 from four overs.
The Thunder finished up 7/153 from their 20 overs. No batsman scored more than 36 in the game and that will be the key to this rematch; one or two batsmen from either team needs to be scoring 40 or more, with one player ideally posting a score of 60+. Michael Neser and Peter Siddle led the way for the Strikers with two wickets apiece.
It is going to be a tight finish for the top five with all teams having one match remaining. The Melbourne Renegades are the only team that can’t play finals; whichever team loses between the Strikers and Thunder could miss out on playing in the BBL10 finals.
The top order for the Thunder needs to do the heavy lifting in this match in order for them to win. Opener Alex Hales has scored the most runs in BBL10 with 472 and will be the key wicket for the Strikers. Along with Hales, fellow opener Usman Khawaja and first-drop batsman Callum Ferguson need to bat well. The trio could only manage 68 yesterday and that wasn’t going to make the run chase an easy task.
Hales looks the most obvious choice for top Thunder runscorer after the season he has had, which included 110 off 56 balls against the Sydney Sixers on January 22.
Strikers captain Travis Head could see a recall back into the Test team soon and would love to get amongst the runs in the Big Bash, although his form in T20 cricket is hardly likely to influence the decision to recall the middle-order batsman to the national side for five-day cricket. Head looks value to be the top scorer for the Strikers.
