Renegades vs Hurricanes Tips, Preview & Prediction

The Hobart Hurricanes sit fifth on the BBL table with one game set to be played by each of the eight teams. Victory will see the Hurricanes play in the BBL10 Finals. Their opponent is the Melbourne Renegades who are a distant last on the ladder with just three wins and 10 losses.

It was a comfortable victory for the Hurricanes back on December 19 when they won by six wickets over the Renegades. The Hurricanes still had 14 balls left after Ben McDermott’s 89 not out led the run chase. Scott Boland picked up 2/19 in the match while Sam Harper finished with 66 not out for the Renegades.

The Hurricanes come off a seven-run victory against the Sydney Sixers. Openers Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short were unstoppable with 86 and 72 runs respectively. With the ball, Nathan Ellis 3/36 (4), Scott Boland 2/23 (4) and Sandeep Lamichhane 2/24 (4) were the leading bowlers for the Hurricanes.

This season has seen the Renegades get bowled out six times from 13 matches which sums up how their year has gone. For the second time in a row they will finish on the bottom of the BBL table and could get blown away by the Hurricanes in this contest.

D’Arcy Short is batting well with scores of 72, 43 and 54 in three of his last four innings. Throw in the fact that he can take a few wickets with the ball from time to time, and Short looks a good bet to score more than 41.5 Player Performance points.

Nathan Ellis has taken 20 wickets for the season, which leads the Hurricanes bowlers for the tournament. I was weighing up between Ellis and Scott Boland for most Hurricanes wickets in the match, but have to go with Ellis who comes off 3/36, 4/34 and 1/35 bowling performances.
