The Melbourne Renegades suffered their seventh loss of the season against the reigning premiers by 45 runs, which has left some question marks over their batting line-up.

In the previous two matches, they’ve been bowled out for 80 and 105, leaving their playoff chances in the balance. They have won three matches this season, with two coming against weak teams with COVID-19 issues and the third being against the last-placed Strikers.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne Stars will be eager to return to the winner’s circle after falling to the top of the table Scorchers by 47 runs last time out. Former Renegade beau Webster opened the batting for the first time and smashed 63 from 47 balls.

Although it could have been a different result if it wasn’t for the wrong batsmen being on strike after the drinks break for the Scorchers, which spurred momentum the away sides way.

It’s going to be a huge week for the Stars, with four games in the next seven days. You would think that they must win at least two of those matches to make the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Glenn Maxwell regains the captaincy from Adam Zampa on Thursday night.

Despite the Renegades sitting above the Stars on the ladder, I believe they will get leapfrogged as David Hussey’s side look to make a late playoffs charge. The key to this match will be the top four batsmen for both sides.
