Thunder vs Stars Tips, Preview & Prediction
After falling in a nail-biting loss to the Sydney Sixers in their last outing, the Stars will be determined to bounce back and register their sixth consecutive victory over the Thunder on Tuesday night.
In arguably the best game of BBL10 so far, the Stars were unable to hold on against the Sixers, who successfully chased down 23 from the final two overs to prevail in a thrilling showdown.
The Stars started slowly at 4/49, but a mighty 125-run stand for the fifth wicket between Nicolas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell steered the side to a handy total of 5/193. Pooran blasted 65 runs at a strike rate of 250 in his debut Big Bash innings, while Maxwell continued his explosive form, finishing with 71 not out off 47 deliveries.
Meanwhile, the Thunder come into this clash on the back of a three-match winning streak, having conquered the Heat, Scorchers and Renegades – however, this will be a step up in class from those struggling teams.
Nevertheless, the Thunder were on fire in their last outing against the Renegades, recording their highest-ever total of 209 in the 129-run win. Ollie Davies was the hero for the Thunder as the Big Bash rookie produced some thunderous shotmaking to hit five straight sixes in his 48 off 23 balls. Earlier, Alex Hales (35 off 21) and Unman Khawaja (34 off 18) set the tone for the innings, combining for 70 in the opening stand.
As a result, it’s shaping as a tight encounter between these two teams, but we’re going to be leaning with the Stars, who won their most recent encounter just a couple of weeks ago by 22 runs. Maxwell and Pooran provide so much firepower in the middle order, so if the openers for the Stars can get off to solid starts, they will be hard to stop.
